La Resistance vs Los Luchas ECW on Sci-Fi 2-02-2007

La Resistance vs Los Luchas ECW on Sci-Fi  2-02-2007

"Did you ever see the match where La Resistance became The Road Warriors?"

While I cannot remember who sent me that fateful AIM message, I certainly can never forget receiving it.  La Resistance? Rene Dupree and Sylvan Grenier?   How could they possibly do anything to become like the Road Warriors.  Did they paint their faces like Marcel Marceau? Did they wear shoulder pads spiked with Baguettes?  Are these jokes about being French landing with my readers? That instant message couldn't have made less sense

Until I watched it.

Folks this is the match where for one night Road Warrior Rene and Road Warrior Sylvan was a real thing.

Their opponents tonight are an unmasked Los Luchas, Phoenix Star and Zokre. They got some buzz in the initial days of PWG and NWA Hollywood, but never really seemed to break out of thee So-Cal scene. I could go on a diatribe about how weird it is to have a tag team called Los Luchas not wear masks, but I got an ass-kicking to discuss

La Resistance attacks Los Luchas before the bell because HEELS, and then proceed to hit three insane moves( LESS IS MORE KIDS).

1. Sylvan with a nasty spinebuster
2. Rene throws one of Los Luchas over the top rope while he takes A STRAIGHT UP BACK BUMP. This is 2007 WWE guys, people didn't do stuff like that back then and probably shouldn't be doing it now. It's like The Los Lucha did a flipping plancha and nobody caught him. It's like he was wrestling The Miz.
3.   Hit their finisher which doesn't have a name and I don't know how to describe so I'll make up a fake name for it, I don't know call it The Piece De Resistance or The Monet Shot or Remember when Jean Dujardian won an Oscar for The Artist and then stopped showing up in stuff? Something like that.

This match ruled

As baffling as it is to say, This one-off match on a random ECW on Sci-Fi taping is it. They reunited just for this match and then they were gone. I assumed someone got released, but they were still around in the company for a couple months.  Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly, but until this match  I thought La Resistance sucked and yet they were on TV every week.  Finally they live up to my admittedly twisted sense of  good wrestling and they don't go anywhere?

How could they possibly get broken after a performance like this?

I went to Warped Tour one year and stumbled upon something special.Amongst the emo and pop punk bands, was a band consisting of a drummer, a woman with a washboard, and a guy with a steel guitar.

Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band.

On a tour where I saw Andrew WK, The Bouncing Souls, Reel Big Fish, The Guy from Fishbone spend half his set tuning instruments, and many others....Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band still stands out. At one point, Reverend Dan announced " They told us not to play this song because it rocks too hard"

That's this match.

I can only assume WWE stopped this pairing because it just rocked too hard. Must watch squash match. Short, to the point and completely unexpected in the best way.   As the blog goes on I will be making a best of list and rank them, and I'm proud to announce  This is the first match to make my initial Squash Match Hall of Fame

TLDR REVIEW
Amazing squash match. Los Luchas got murdered. Where is Jean Dujardian?
