The Naturals and David Young vs 3 Live Kru (Konnan, Road Dogg, and Ron "The Truth" Killings") TNA Impact 06-10-2004

I can't believe I forgot about 3 Live Kru

One of the fun things of the blog has been activating memories that were lost. Things I had just straight up forgot happened. As long as it doesn't resurface some alien abduction trauma, that'll continue to be my favorite part of this blog. Even  with my brain forgetting stuff more than it used to ( WHERES THE FUCKING REMOTE) I can't believe I forgot about 3 Live Kru.  Even my brain forgetting stuff more than it used to ( WHERES THE FUCKING REMOTE) , I can't believe I forgot about 3 Live Kru. Formed in the early days of TNA, 3 Live Kru was comprised of BG James, Ron Killings, and Konnan. At the time, I considered all three of them to be the coolest wrestlers I'd ever seen. Not necessarily the best, but the coolest.  All of them deserve their own entries, but we can do a quick dip into their whole deals. That's the phrase right?

BG James, the former Road Dogg, sucks now but I don't know any kid who didn't have Road Dogg in their top 3 favorite wrestlers during The Attitude Era. Everyone had Austin,Rock or Mankind as their top guy, but once you got past that you'd always find Road Dogg near the top . Meanwhile in WCW, Konnan was having a similar experience. He wasn't anyone's number one favorite, but he was always near the top of everyone's list. Konnan was fucking cool man. The only reason 3 Live Kru wasn't considered the coolest stable of all time is because NWO Wolfpac existed. I think almost singlehandedly,  Konnan was the one who brought the cool factor to it.  Lex Luger was in that stable and god bless him, but there is nothing cool about Lex. You can tell someone is cool when they have a catchphrase nobody is entirely sure what he's saying. It remains unclear to this day if Konnan was bowdy bowdy or bout it bout it. Lastly, Ron Killings showed up in WWE as K-Kwik as a rapper...who could actually rap. Ron looked like a  million bucks and had charisma out his ass. It's been 20 years and I still sing " Getting Rowdy" to myself when doing the dishes.  Never when I'm getting rowdy though, when that happens I sing Ballroom Blitz

So imagine how pumped  I was to found out these three had formed a team in TNA. The big appeal to be was just the crossover of Konnan and Road Dogg. Ron Killings ruled, but he was newer on the scene. The idea that Konnan and Road Dogg were teaming up was incredible to me. They were mirror versions of each other during The Monday Night Wars, and now they were going to form  a superteam  Look, I'm realistic and I know there is no way the in-ring work is great. Honestly though,

Who fucking cares?

We are in the Impact Zone once again for TNA Impact as 3 Live Kru will be taking on David Young and The Naturals. David Young was a name in Southern Independent wrestling, particularly in NWA Wildside. However in TNA he was given the gimmick of, guy who loses all the time. That sounds like a dig, but I do enjoy the gimmick. I enjoy anyone who was the gimmick of guy who loses. What  I don't enjoy is David Young not having anything on his arms. Usually that's a sign you suck. The Naturals are Andy Douglas and Chase Stevens. This is early in their run, but they eventually become a home-grown TNA team  and hold the TNA tag titles. They never really got a shot anywhere else which was surprising because if memory serves they were pretty good. I guess I have to do a Naturals deep dive now.

The match is underway and god I forget how yoked Konnan used to be. Konnan's shoulders are absolutely massive here. You can have a drive-in movie on his back. I can't tell if Konnan is way bigger than I remember or Andy Douglas is way smaller than I expect. Lots of chain wrestling early on which is surprising because I didn't think Konnan was bout it bout it. Surprisingly quick pace early on, leading with Konnan Lucha rolling through a leapfrog by Douglas. I had to rewind it about 3 times to make sure he didn't clip his dick on the roll, but came out clean.  Konnan whips Douglas into ropes and a rolling clothesline before posing to the crowd. I think I've gotten in my head that Konnan didn't ever do a lot, and so to see him with this speed is something else.  Chase Stevens tries to attack Konnan, but Konnan with a big hip-toss to the outside and Stevens takes a huge flip like a champ. Stevens in the 3LK corner and Konnan unleashes 10 punches. Killings and James get into it too. Konnan tags in Killings and BG distracts the referee. This allows James and Konnan to hold Douglas' legs open and Killings to hit a legdrop to the nether regions. This time he definitely clipped his dick.  CLIP HIS DICK. CLIP HIS DICK. God this is fun.  Killings taunts Douglas with Dancing and Truth actually dances his way out of some offense. BG sneaks in and puts Douglas in a Spinebuster position. JESUS CHRIST, IS BG JAMES MASSIVE TOO. WHY DID I THINK ALL THESE PEOPLE WERE SO SMALL. Killings with A HUUUUUGEEEE JUMP AND  CRESCENT KICKS DOUGLAS DOWN. BG James is a big man so that's a biiiiiggg leap. Chase Stevens breaks it up and they finally get the advantage by attacking BG James. I don't know how BG James became legal. I rewound it a bunch of times. I don't understand how what's happening is legal. Sort of like Citizen's United.  Over in their corner, The Naturals and Young pepper BG James with shots before whipping him into the ropes. BG ducks  comes back with the double clothesline. BG  selling hard and really milking the hot tag for a guy whos been wrestling a match that's....let me check, 2 minutes long so far. Thank you FSN sports ticker. He makes the tag to Killings and Stevens tags in David Young who enters the match for the first time. Killings ducks a clothesline and hits that gnarly spinning forearm he does. Love that move., Killings hit the scissor kick for the win.

This was really quick and really fun. 3LK was over and I really loved the trio. This is like a post-Raw dark match main event in the best possible way. The babyfaces win, the heels do silly stuff . Everyone goes home happy. While I can understand why 3LK topped out where they did, I would be interested to see more of their squashes to see if their all as fun as this

TLDR Review
I endorse BG James ( not politically). I endorse Konnan ( Not politically). I endorse Ron Killings ( not politically, but I'm open to it. What's his take on student loan debt.
