Bret Hart vs Dublin Destroyer WWF Wrestling Challenge 06-02-1992

Bret Hart vs Dublin Destroyer WWF Wrestling Challenge 06-02-1992

I don't think I can meet Bret Hart.

Even though he's my favorite wrestler of all time I don't think I can meet him. I'm pretty worried about what I do. The way I see it, I'd either embarrass myself in front of him by talking too much or say nothing to him and regret it later. It'd basically be the pro wrestling equivalent of the Chris Farley show.

Hey Bret, you remember when you were the excellence of execution....that was awesome.

It's really weird to think about meeting him because for so many years that seemed impossible to me. I couldn't imagine as a child that Bret was  ever going to be meetable. He's actually been popping around my area lately for signings and shows and as we get closer and closer to those dates, I begin to wonder.....can I meet Bret Hart?

Bret Hart has not always been my favorite wrestler, but he was my first. I am a New Generation Era kid, and I don't care what anyone says The New Gen Era was awesome. Bret was my easily my favorite guy, and though I dabbled in fandom of Taker, Shawn, Luger, Ahmed Johnson, etc....Bret was always my favorite. I took it EXTREMLY personally when Bret turned heel in 1997 and fully bought into the anti-Canada stuff. Then when Bret went to WCW I watched, but it wasn't the same. I sort of let my love of Bret fade away. There was an online consensus that Bret was overrated, that Bret was bitter, that Bret wasn't as good as people say and while I didn't buy it, I didn't really oppose it. I was just a kid when Bret was around, maybe I just missed it...maybe people were right. I wasn't the only one, it seemed for a long time there that if you picked Bret over Shawn you were considered an idiot.

Quit living in the past Marge

I don't know what exactly caused it, but in the past decade a lot of people have really gotten on the Bret bandwagon. Some of us are returning to seats we left back in the 90s, and others are going on the ride for the very first time.  For me personally, it's a combo of a  things. For starters, being able to go back and rewatch Bret matches puts the whole " Bret wrestled the same match" narrative to shreds. He had his signature moves, but all Bret matches are different and are so good.  I know people complain about his house show work ethic, but I'm pretty sure I haven't done a good job on a Friday my entire adult life so who am I to judge. Another factor for me is,  Bret just doesn't seem to give a fuck. He just constantly tells people his opinion, which usually involves  a WWE burial, and doesn't kiss anyone's ass.  Not only that, but he will shit on WWE and THEN THEY PAY HIM MORE MONEY. Imagine if you could tell your boss how shitty he was, he then paid you a bunch of money and asked you to stop by later this week to once again tell him he shitty he was.

That's the dream right there.

Bret Hart is the Best There is, The Best There Was, and The Best there ever will be....but let's see if that translates to squash matches. I knew I had to do a Bret match early in the blog, but I needed to find the right opponent. I needed to find someone who  would gel with Bret. I only get one shot at this,  I needed to be careful and thoughtful.

Instead I picked a guy named Dublin Destroyer because it's a weird name

My European history is a bit off, but I'm going to assume having a wrestler named Dublin Destroyer during the Troubles in Ireland is a bad idea. I don't know the timeline, but at the very least it seems a bit too soon.  Bret is so smooth in this match and it really is the greatest hits of Bret . Even though it's a squash it's a reminder of just how good he is. Everything Bret does looks great, except for Dublin Destroyer taking a shoulder tackle so badly I had to rewind to confirm what happened. As a special bonus we get a picture in picture of Shawn Michaels talking about wrestling Bret, because the ominous spectre of Montreal must loom over everything fun.  Something I never noticed Bret do before that I love is the Sharpshooter tease. He gets the legs, looks to the crowd and then stomps the gut.  I never picked up that before that s he will do that to get the crowd going, but it was excellenty executed. You know the deal by now.

Suplex
Elbow
Sharpshooter
Win

It's not a super great squash and you probably don't need to track it down, but it is an indication of just how good Bret is. This is just a few short months before he begins his World Title run and the crowd is definitely ready for Bret to ascend to the next level. I don't know if I can ever meet Bret Hart, but I'll always be down to watch him.

I think I can meet CM Punk though. We can just talk about Bret Hart

TLDR Review
Best There is. Best There was. Best There ever will be....just not at squash matches
