Sean Dahmer Vs Hydra CWE 05-15-2007
(Disclaimer: I'm not entirely sure on the name/date of this show. I had to do a journalism to figure out info and this is my best guess)
It dawned on me recently that barring something terrible, I'm going to be an elderly man at wrestling shows
I think it was when I went to a AEW Dynamite show in Boston. I don't go to as many live pro wrestling shows as I used to when I was younger, but when I do I always have a blast. I was sitting there and at a certain point thinking, is this ever going to not be fun? Television wrestling can be bad, but I don't think I've ever gone to a live pro wrestling show and had anything less than fun. I've been angry, I've been annoyed, I've been bored, but those are just fleeting moments in what are usually great nights.
Whenever I heard stories of people who talk about discovering wrestling I get a little jealous because I don't have that. Wrestling has just been a constant source in my life , it's like the moon at this point...it's existed for as long as I've been aware. My earliest memory of my life is Randy Savage trying to pin Yokozuna in the 1993 Royal Rumble and even as a child thinking Macho Man was kind of an idiot. That's as far back as my brain goes and the viewing never stopped. The thing about wrestling is if you survive past high school as a fan, I think they have you hooked for life. Sure I've had peaks and valleys, but I've never fully stopped watching wrestling. When WWE wasn't doing it for me, I switched to primarily independent wrestling fandom. Let me tell you, indie wrestling fandom is a young man's game
I'm 33 in person years, but in indie wrestling fan years I feel like I'm elderly.
Wrestling has evolved a lot over the years and I really enjoy most of it, but I'm catching myself having a few get off my lawn moments. I don't want to bury anything in particular ( that's what group chats are for), but there's stuff I just think isn't very good that a lot of other people like. I just have to sort of swallow it or else risk getting Ok Boomered, but someone who can't name any members of Special K.
But with this age does come the benefit of wisdom. I went to so many shows that when guys appear on national television, you get that parasocial feeling that you're part of the story. I'm pretty sure I've seen at least 10 members of the AEW roster on shows in front of less than 100 people and now they're working pay per views. The other wisdom is that you get to feel like you saw stuff people missed out on. There's only so many hours of wrestling a person can watch,....so from time to time I get to pull my old man card and let them know facts. Fact like
If Hydra was around today he'd be the biggest name on the indies.
That's not opinion, that is fact. Just like it is a fact that this review is basically an excuse to talk about Hydra for a while. Hydra is a pretty simple gimmick. A Small underwater sea monster who thinks he's actually a giant kaiju. Run of the mill, you'd think of the same gimmick walking down the street. To say this silly gimmick was ahead of it's time would be an understatement. To see such a little guy try to work like a big man, was so great. He never overstayed his welcome, never tried to all of a sudden be Hy-dra the serious wrestler whos the sea monster of the mat. No, he came out did his schtick and got out and ruled. He was like a phoenix soaring above the clouds if the phoenix drew on abs.
His opponent in this match is "Syko" Sean Dahmer, who this is my first time viewing. I assumed this was CZW legend Jon Dahmer but I was surprised to see it wasn't a typo. I can't decide if I prefer the name "Syko" Sean Dahmer or "Cyko" Matt Hall. That is a hell of a deep cut reference to a Discovery Channel documentary on UPW that' nobody is gonna get.
Ok Boomer.
Dahmer is dressed like a very 2007 indie wrestler, which isn't an insult it's just the truth. Unfortunately this video cuts of a promo by The Olson Twins setting up Hydra in the Hydralock challenge, which I can only assume was fantastic. Dahmer kills the Olson Twins and the match is on. Dahmer outweighs Hydra by ...I'm bad at math so let's just say a lot.... but Hydra doesn't care. He tries to test of strength Dahmer, but Dahmer kicks him and hits him with the.....Is that the Fire Thunder Driver? I know It's the Rikishi Driver, so let's call it that. Hits him with the Rikishi Driver for the win and that is it.
Listen, it's barely a squash match but it's my blog and it got Hydra on it so it's great just to see that. I know he popped up at a show fairly recently so if this blog gains any traction, please Hydra I am begging you

TLDR Review
Hydra should come back. Barely a squash. I wonder if "Cyko" Matt Hall is still in prison
If you're interested in more condensed version of my thoughts, You can check out my Twitter where I talk about wrestling or stress out during Boston Celtics games. Hell, I'll even take suggestions for matches you want to see reviewed. You can also check out my Youtube where I make weird videos where I put on wigs in front of a camera to mask my true identity.
