Steiner Brothers vs George South & Ricky Nelson WWF Superstars 03-08-1993

Steiner Brothers vs George South & Ricky Nelson WWF Superstars  03-08-1993

You had to know Rick and Scott Steiner were going to show up on this blog sooner rather than later.  Rick and Scott Steiner are quite possibly the greatest squash match tag team of all time ( it'll be interesting to see how they stack up against my othertwo  picks, The Samoan Swat Team and The Quebecers).  I'm a big fan of the Marty and Sarah Love Wrestling podcast, and a recurring theme on there is the concept of little boy shit. That's just stuff in wrestling that clearly seems like something that was seemingly designed for a little boy. As a former little boy myself, The Steiners were my shit. Two big dudes who wear colorful trunks and one of them thinks he's a dog, but they're brothers and they love each other.

Little Boy Shit

I'm from Massachusetts, a state with a lot of professional sports but not much in the way of college athletics. It has it's moments ( John Calipari screaming at Jon Chaney), but there isn't an engrained team everyone roots for. That makes college football and March Madness a bit difficult to get into as I don't have a horse in the race. That is also why I am apathetic on the Kentucky Derby. On the years I do get invested in it, I will always pick Michigan and it's only because of The Steiners . As a kid I wanted to go to Michigan for college because 1. It's probably the only college I knew existed, and 2. The Steiners wrestled there and then I could Wrestle there and then I could become friends with the Steiners and then I could be a wrestler.

Little Boy Shit

To be fair, the small Michigan fandom is also because of Michigan alumni slash  former NBA star Jalen Rose as well. I remember when he went on First Take and humiliated Skip Bayless after Skip tried to pretend he was a great high school athlete. I remember it so clearly because it was my first day of work at a new job. I said, you know what I'm gonna go ahead and be late because I got to see this. Worth it. Jalen was a part of Michigan's legendary Fab Five basketball team that's NCAA title  run culminated in Chris Webber's infamous timeout blunder.

Scott Steiner wouldn't have done that.

The Steiners opponents this evening are Ricky Nelson and  legendary wimpy George South.  Both their cagematch profiles feature them wrestling a who's who of NWA/WCW talent, and here they are in WWF. I don't know what happened exactly, but I feel like during the rise of pro wrestling you would see this happen where the job guys would go back and forth between the companies and it never felt right.

There are people who say the Steiners lost something when they came to WWF and based on this squash I'd have to agree. They're still awesome, and as a kid I was a huge Scott Steiner fan, but I know their potential and this squash is just sort of missing something. It just doesn't feel right. Scott gets George down with some chain wrestling and then a big old belly to belly. George tags into Ricky who doesn't get as easy a time as George as Rick and Scott each take time doing physically impossible suplexes to Rikki. Each move looks like it's about one second away from disaster so luckily Rikki had the ability to survive.  Rick climbs the top rope and hits the bulldog off of Scott's shoulders for the win

Its a good squash, but I expect more from the boys. Maybe the fact nobody got dropped on their head is indicative of the fact  that they got better as wrestlers,  but I hate that. I don't want that. I want headdrops. I dig the Steiners, but this match is good and nothing more. Don't worry, there's some guaranteed bangers down the way.

TLDR Review
Good match, but not special.  Steiners didn't give the people what they wanted. Little Boy Shit

If you're interested in more condensed version of my thoughts,  You can check out my  Twitter  where I talk about wrestling or stress out during Boston Celtics games. Hell, I'll even take suggestions for matches you want to see reviewed.  You can also check out my Youtube where I make weird videos where I put on wigs in front of a camera to mask my true identity.
